After its debut back in 2001, the Chevy Avalanche’s production was discontinued in 2013, after depicting low sales. General Motors’ concept of the Avalanche back then was quite unique and made it stand out from her competitors. It was a humongous pick-up truck constructed on the chassis of a mid-size SUV. Despite the discontinuation, GM brought back the Avalanche as a completely new concept with a new design and makeover in 2018.
Here is what to expect from the Chevrolet Avalanche 2018 model.
EXTERIOR
The 2018 Chevy Avalanche comes with a completely new body shape and outlook with a touch of modern and trendy modifications. The rear design and bed also got a makeover but its bed remains the small with an extension at the back.
Because of this concept, it has been difficult to classify the Avalanche as a pick-up, a truck, or an SUV. From the front, GM has fitted it with modern LED lights that give the Avalanche an aggressive but eye-catching look. It will also come with a new look front grill and a huge front bumper. It rides on p265/70r tires (17 to 20 inch) to complement the car’s huge body size and maintain its all-terrain status.
The Avalanche comes with a new look from the rear with larger LED taillights and a bigger, stylish rear bumper. With a cargo-carrying capability, the cargo bed’s 5-foot-3-inch-long (1.6 m) length to 8 feet 2 inches (2.5 m) means that the Avalanche still has enough space to accommodate a considerable amount of luggage.
INTERIOR
The model comes with an all-leather interior and enough space to comfortably sit 6 passengers. GM has also incorporated new technology features including a huge LCD navigation touch screen, climate control, stability control, parking sensors, lane departure warning system, and traction control, intelligent braking, and blind spot warning.
Some of the Avalanche’s safety features have also been upgraded and include safety bags all around the passenger sitting areas. An assortment of controls and buttons has been fitted on the steering wheel and on the dashboard for easy control when driving. Additional safety features include:
Standard StabiliTrak stability control system with rollover mitigation technology
Standard dual-stage driver front air bag
Standard dual-stage outboard-front passenger air bag with passenger sensing system
Standard tire pressure monitoring system
Available Ultrasonic Rear Parking Assist that can detect certain stationary objects in the rearward path of the vehicle and send an audible warning sound and display via three LEDs near the rear window
Available rearview camera system designed to provide the driver with a view of people or objects in the rearward path of the vehicle.
ENGINE AND PERFORMANCE
Under the hood, the avalanche is powered by a 5.3L V8 engine with a power output of over 355HP and over 400ft of torque. There are other engine options to choose from including a hybrid option. With a 10-speed transmission, the engine will be capable of propelling the truck from 0-60MPH in under 6 seconds and capable of reaching a maximum speed of 125MPH.
When it comes to pulling its weight on the job, it has a maximum towing capacity of 8,100 pounds (3,674 kg).
Fuel economy has also been put into consideration, with the Avalanche’s consumption just 16MPG in the city and 22MPG on the freeway.
PRICE AND RELEASE DATE
GM released the Avalanche 2018 sometime in 2017 and it costs anywhere between $32000-$40000 and lower for used options.
